The confusion over changing your bedding supplies is something that every individual goes through. How long do you keep them on, and when do you need to throw them in the washer? Changing your bedding supplies is a necessity as highlighted by the information given below.

Bacterial infection
Bacteria are the most common microorganisms found on our body. These bacteria settle on our bed and breeds effectively. The bed is the perfect place for bacteria to grow, as they provide a warm surface for infestation. Moreover, the bed and bedding supplies contain a good amount of moisture, deposited due to sweat, saliva and other bodily discharges. Staphylococcus aureus is the most common bacteria found on bedspreads. This strain of bacteria when it enters the body causes infections such as, pneumonia, urinary tract infection, and bacteremia.

Fungal infestation
To prevent fungal infestation on sheets, quilts, and other similar bedding items, they need to be washed and changed frequently. Sweat is the biggest reason for fungal growth. The fungus which ultimately results in skin disorders and other bodily infections. Athlete’s foot is another common fungal infection which spreads rapidly and can affect the folds of your skin and nether regions. Another fungal infection that spreads through bedding supplies is Candida albicans. The best way to get rid of fungal infestations from bedspreads, quilts, and other bedding is by a good thorough wash in the washing machine using hot water. Don’t mix other clothes or items with fungal-infected beddings.

Dust
No matter how much you try, you cannot escape the dust. Dust accumulates on your bedding supplies too. If you live in an urban area, then it’s the biggest challenge you will face. Dust causes skin irritation, allergies and can settle in your lungs causing respiratory problems.

Bedding items do not need to be changed daily but keeping them on for a long time is unhygienic and can cause a series of health problems. So the best thing to do is clean them every other week or every two weeks.
